Guyton, Georgia
Last night and tonight I took a small break from school, work, and the typical Savannah drama, and drove out about 50 miles to Guyton, Georgia. All I can really say about Guyton is that it is in the middle of nowhere. Why go there then? I went last night to see my good friends Mattie and Chase who have recently re-located to live out there inbetween tour dates. Mattie sings and Chase plays guitar for a band called A Girl A Gun A Ghost .
So this is the story, these boys along with David, their bassist, have no money because they are on and off tour all the time trying to make it as an independent band (for now, hopefully they will be signed soon). When you have no money you sure don't have a place to live because rent costs a ton and really, who can pay rent when they can bearly pay for gas on tour off of the money that they make at the shows that they play so they found a solution. Derek, their other guitarest had an old RV out in the back yard of their house in Guyton, Georgia. The boys all hapilly moved into the RV in his back yard while inbetween tour dates.
So here I am, driviing out to the middle of nowhere to hang out with my friends who play in a band and live in the middle of nowhere in an old RV in someone's back yard. Mom and dad, I sure hope you aren't reading this. HAhahaha!
Here are some stills from the quick interview I shot with Mattie and Chase about living at 662 B er... the RV in Derek's backyard:

Mattie is one of the most amazing human beings I have ever met. His humility astonishes me every time we hang out and his ability to roll with the punches makes him a champ. His dedicaton to hiis band is awesome- well they are all REALLY dedicated, they wouldn't be living out of an RV if they weren't. I heart them all and I think they really are going to make it musically if they stay as dedicated as they are right now.
I'm thinking of jumping on tour with them after I graduate in November and filming a bit, we got some awesome footage today, hopefully the above video stills help prove that the story is true. Tonight I went out there again and brought my new roommate and her friend with me because they were having a "benefit" show to beneift them before they leave agian on tour. Come on, they need to eat! You wouldn't believe it but there was a pretty big turn out of the usual backwoods rock and roll kids as well as some travelers, even 2 girls came from Miami! The show was fun and I got to catch up with a lot of kids I don't see too often. Where did they play? In the back yard near the trailer.
Needless to say, I feel like there is never a dull moment with me in life. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. Tomorrow I begin to prepare for my trip to CORNERSTONE !! I haven't had a break since March where I took 4 days off for myself so this is a MUCH needed break from work and school. I'll probably bring some Pedaling for Change work with me to get done but other than that I'm just gonna take a breather. "WHY", you might ask, "the world needs you here!". The truth is that if I keep going the way I'm going without breaks like last quarter then the quality of my work and leadership will dwindle. I need at least a week of summer break before I jump back into these documentaries and projects and scuh. In the meantime I have people who are perfectially capable holding down the fort in my absence doing an AMAZING job by the way.
Anyway more on Cornerstone tomorrow. Tonight sleep (thank GOD).
If you ever go to Guyton, Georgia... go hang out with A GIRL A GUN A GHOST in their RV or go fishing with them in the pond that is 5 feet from the trailer.
fun fun fun. haha
