Aspen July 09!

My sister is spending her summer vacation from Columbia and Julliard in Aspen, Colorado for a music program so my family and I decided to go out there and visit her.
All of us in Aspen (minus Mike who couldn't make it on the trip) at the Maroon Bells.

I flew to Denver where the parents picked me up along their drive from Michigan. Once all in the car, we made our way from Denver to Aspen, got settled into our hotel, and met the little sister for dinner. I hadn't seen her in almost a year so it was awesome to catch up!
If you have never been to Aspen I highly recommend it. It's killer expensive but Geeta and I got to check out a bunch of awesome camp grounds with bike trails right to downtown. It's a perfectly bikeable city with free public transit downtown (a bus system kinda like the park city one but a little smarter when it comes to the layout and it cover a lot more ground)and tons of awesome stuff to do from hiking to shopping. There is even a couple who fix up old road bikes to be single speaders and fixies and they display/sell them every Saturday downtown. These bikes were custom and SUPER CUTE!

Can you imagine all of the tourists and old folk living in Aspen riding these fun fixies around? Well they are!

They have scooter rentals for a pretty decent price, white water rafting, free classical music concerts, rides up the gondolas, etc. There is the ski resort there and plenty of rivers and wildlife. (Brigid has seen a bear twice and just outside of her apartment there!) The place is just so refreshing and life-affirming I honestly didn't want to leave. It's like the artist's dream town. I could see myself getting all sorts of inspiration being in a place like that. No wonder all the musicians go there for their summer programs.

The only 54 year old who still hikes with a butterfly net. Got one!

Tiger swallowtail or some other butterfly that Geeta is trying to eat.

Waiting for the bus to catch up

View of Aspen from the top of the mountain!

I think I want to live here some day.

Who wouldn't enjoy beautiful classical music on every street corner, mountains, wildlife, a downtown life, water, and snowboarding all in one epic valley? Aspen, I'm coming back but next time I'm bringing my bike and my man!

After our time in Aspen, the parents and I headed out to Salt Lake City for a super epic single day on the road...
