Jacksonville, Florida 08/02/2006
Went to Jacksonville Wednesday on a much anticipated trip with a few friends (Gabriel, Marcos, Ricky, and Hawk) to see a few more friends and some fun bands. Jax is only about 2 hours from Savannah and I feel like I could justify the trip because gas was only 6 bucks a person and the show was only 12 so, technically, if I decided to keep it real I could get away with spending less than 20 bucks for the entire night. Did I? Well you should ask the kids that each still owe me their 6 bucks for gas that question. haha.
So all five of us smashed into Gabriel's car AGAIN ( flashbacks of the 15 hour drive to Cornerston just wouldn't stop haunting me the whole way) and hauled butt down to Jax. The lineup was this- Gabe drove and Ricky sat shotgun while Marcos, Hawk, and I sat in the back. We made Hawk sit in the middle because he's 6 foot 5 or something and that way he could stretch his legs into the front seat. Marcos sat Cobane and I sat behind driver. It was quite cozy. haha... I think Hawk was freaking Marcos out.

We missed the first band which seems like a trend for shows that I drive multiple hours to see but were just in time for the second. The line up: As Cities Burn, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Lorene Drive, and Jonezetta.
All was well. It's funny because although As Cities Burn was headlining, it seemed like the entire place was there for the Sons of Disaster. I hear that's pretty typical though. They are really climbing the ladder.
Best part of the night: I got to catch up with a travelin' friend that I never get to see. The last time I cought up with him was at Cornerstone not too long ago but I try to take advantage of the times I get to see him because he tours so much that, well, I guess we just never know when we'll be able to chill out again you know? Anyway we skipped out on As Cities Burn and took a walk in Jacksonville. It was really uplifting to see that crazy kid.
Second best part of the night: Eating at applebees after the show. How do I always get stuck with 4 dudes in restaurants. I need to bring more girls next time. The problem is that I don't know many girls who actually are into my favorite kind of music. Most go to shows just because they think the guys are hott or something. That's annoying so I rarely bring girls to shows. Please Lord introduce me to a rocker chick that is in it for more than just the "guys"... and actually enjoys the music she goes to shows to watch. please.
I love these one night road trips... We were back in Savannah by 3am.
overall: exhilarating night-well worth the trip.
