October is wonderful in Savannah, Georgia
Everything about today has been pleasent. October in Savannah, Georgia, is by far my favorite month. The whole month is usually 70 degrees and slightly windy. Perfect... seriously. (Maybe I think it's perfect because October weather in Savannah is most like the general summer weather in Michigan haha).
Anyway, today I woke up earlier than usual to help my friend Zach with a project. He needed footage digitized from a minidv tape into quicktime files so he can make some sort of 4D project. I captured the footage for him last night and had it ready for him to pick up in the morning...which he did.
After I gave him the digitized footage and his tape back, I decided to stay up and finish my homework for my 2pm class. That only took me about 20 minutes, so, after that I worked on a live music video I've been editing for the band Showbread that I shot earlier this summer at Cornerstone Festival. The video is almost done and is looking awesome. I LOVE EDITING LIVE MUSIC VIDEOS.
Eventually, I got around to doing the dishes that needed to be done at the apartment and I cleaned my room a little. I decided I should do some work on the press kit for Pedaling For Change so I packed up my computer and biked over to the Sentient Bean to get some lunch and work on these documents. I don't usually go to the Sentient Bean but I wanted to be close to the park and sit outside so it was my best choice at the moment. Not to mention it's about halfway between my apartment and where I have class at 2pm. I got a salad there and hung out a little while trying to figure out this press kit. I didn't get much done:)
I left about 20 minutes before I had to be at my business class a mile away and enjoyed the bicycle ride. It's funny, I always see these kids riding their bicycles around Savannah and I never really consider myself one of "them"... you know, the kids who prefer to save gas and ride their bikes instead- those known for riding everywhere. I'm tottally one of them though. I don't even have my jeep right now because it's been in the shop. If I was in Michigan that would tottally phase me but honestly, I forgot it was in the shop yesterday when I was supposed to pick it up because I usually just ride my bicycle anyway. I can't wait to get my new GOOD bike. It will make commuting even easier.
It's totally an empowering feeling knowing that I can get around to everything that everyone else gets around to but for much less because I'm on my bike. I probably average about 6-10 miles a day in just commuting. Not that much if you really think about it. Plus, riding during these wonderful autumn months in Savannah is awesome. I always see people I know and have time to stop and chat! I saw my friend Tyler today wit his kick butt fixed gear and got a chance to make sure we were still meeting up later tonight like we planned.
It's been easygoing today and very comfortable. Just an overall good day so far. After class I'll ride the 2 miles to the car shop and put my bike in the back of the jeep, pay a ridiculous amount of money for the repairs, and drive it to the gas station to get it cleaned out. Might as well do a full job- repairs AND cleaning. Then I'll drop it off at home, get changed, and bike to the gym or maybe go for a run. After that: Dinner with Tyler, homework, and catching up on some emails. I think I'll crash early tonight, or just talk on the phone all night. haha.
Am I re-discovering Carefree Timelesness... I wish.
ps> Apartments in Salt Lake City are CHEAP. Apartments in Park City are EXPENSIVE. I think I'll most likely stay in Salt lake so I can commute more during the year with the bicycle and then take the busses up the mountain to Sundance. I apply for another Sundance job tonight or tomorrow. Pray that they like me! I'm thinking of going to Utah not this weekend but next to check it all out. hmm...
