Utah 01

Today I woke up and drove my aunt's car to Park City. I bummed around there all day meeting as many people as possible and looking for a place to live. Word on the street is that it's next to impossible to find housing right now and through the winter... all the more reason to actually do it and live up there instead of in Salt Lake City during these winter months. Everyone is mad friendly here and I didn't get hit on ONCE the entire day... unlike Savannah where people try to pick you up every day. I looked at a few houses and picked up a few job applications and then headed back down the hill to SLC.

Can I just say real quick that I LOVE Park City and Salt Lake City and every single thing out here oh my gosh.

On the drive back...

I decided, about half way back, to take a detour through Emigration Canyon to look at one last place on my list of possible housing.. the minute I got out there was like "nope" but I thought I'd drive around and explore a little anyway...so like 20 mins later I'm way off the beaten path and in this itty bitttty mountain village. There are huge white tailed deer like chillin eating the grass in people's front yards and funy back country stores... it would have taken me 20 mins to get back to the express way so I just pointed the wheels west and hoped that the road would lead to Salt Lake... next thing I know I see a vally of lights and a giant white temple. Welcome back to SLC. hahaha

Tonight I got a chance to hang out with my 17 year old cousin Joe. Last night I hung out with my other cousins who I am staying with, Ali and Zeek and they showed me some of where they live but tonight I got a chance to go with Joe to downtown SLC. He showed me all the hang outs and activist chill spots. It was mad cool... almost cooler than Gallery Espresso! (Imagine that! haha lol) There were punk kids and hard core kids everywhere! Way fun. I met this other guy named Joe who was working at the coffee house we went to and it turns out he just moved to Utah from New York. It was cool talking to him. Man! I met so many awesome people today. I got so many phone numbers! hahaha... This just makes me even more excited to move out here! Joe's super punk rawk... it's funny how diverse my family is. I love them.

Joe tells me that the hard core scene has all but died out here because of the lack of positivity. The venues shut down because of the sxe wars and underage drinking. Sad thing... he explained to me about a lot of the straight edge problems that they have and about how when the sxe kids run the shows they always get shut down. Being someone who could be considered Straight Edge because I don't drink, smoke, do any drugs, etc... it's sad to see the whole "hate edge" thing. Maybe I'll be able to bring a little more fun back to the scene... It will be mad different if I'm out in Park City instead of SLC but really it's only a 40 min drive. Not a big deal.

Anyway, sleep time for me now. I'm exhausted and having trouble getting used to this altitude thing. hahahaha. Tomorrow I have some more exploring to do, an Invitational Rail Jam to attend, and a job interview with a documentary being made here that needs editing help.

For the fun of it, here is my aunt's house... I just couldn't handle it- you can see the mountains in her back yard. wtf.
