I'm a Photographer... er.... I was....?

As many of you know, I had gotten a job at Brighton Ski and Snowboard Resort as a resort photographer. This meant that I was taking portrait photographs of families and individuals outside on top of the mountain with the beautiful mountain views in the background. It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. The perks of the job were that I got to have a free snowboarding pass to the resort and a free bus pass to get there and back from the mouth of the mountain. The bus pass is a great perk because it helps save your car from the mountain drives every day. There were a lot of great things about the job but two things that stood out that weren't so great. The first thing was that I was working 50 hours a week and, in turn, neglecting the entire reason I came out here (which is to build my company and snowboard) and that I wasn't making much money. Brighton pays their photographers on commission. I was making about 15 percent of the sales of my photos. This means that if there is a slow day at the resort and not many people want photographs, I am spending the same amount of hours out on the mountain and could make as little as $2 or $3 bucks for the whole DAY. No, not $3 bucks an hour but $3 bucks for the WHOLE DAY. Now remember, this is an extreme case but it DID happen once in a while. Other days I'd make maybe 50 bucks or more. This is still not nearly enough to justify working 50 hours a week and neglecting work that needed to be done for the films that I'm making. The result? I told my boss that I wouldn't be able to do it anymore. He suggested cutting my days back to a few days every other week because he is desperate for photographers. I'm considering doing that because I will be able to keep my pass to the mountain and, that way, I wouldn't be spending time at Brighton that I should be spending on promoting my OWN company: Veritaz Productions.

I have still yet to actually confirm my quitting. He gave me some time to think about it... After looking at these photos that my friend Jess took while we were both working together I think I might reconsider. Even if that means only like one day a week.... haha. I'll call the guy tomorrow- I have to go pick up my check anyway. AHH what to do what to do. I miss being on the mountain but at the same time I have to be doing stuff here. Is there a balance?

Im sure there's a balance somewhere, somehow, and in someway. Normally I would suggest prayer, but in this case I think its already apparent that what you really need to being doing is focused with your company. Although I love those pictures of you (despite the fact that Im hating snow right now) In any case I'll pray for you that things work out (for a change. lol) Give me a call.
